Because of recent farming methods, and soil pollution, Selenium is a mineral that has become increasingly more difficult to find naturally in foods. Selenium is an antioxidant which has recently received much interest for its reported role in contributing to a healthy immune system and its synergistic relationship with Vitamin E. Indicated for antioxidant protection.

Vitamin E is a major fat-soluble antioxidant. It protects cell membranes and lipids against oxidation. Selenium is an essential trance mineral that has been added as a synergist to complement Vitamin E.

Vitamin E is essential for maintaining the integrity, function, and flexibility of cell membranes. Vitamin E is also an important fat soluble antioxidant. Fat soluble antioxidants help to prevent harmful substances, called free radicals, from attacking and damaging the cell membrane.

Vitamin E is actually a family of eight antioxidants, four tocopherols (alpha, beta, gamma, and delta), and four tocotrienols (also alpha, beta, gamma, and delta). That Alpha-tocopherol is the form of Vitamin E that appears to have the greatest antioxidant potential, and is also the only form that meets the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for Vitamin E. The mixed natural tocopherols-beta, gamma and delta forms are also added for balance.

Cautions and Interactions Adverse reactions to vitamin E supplementation at the suggested level of intake are very rare. The Institute of Medicine considers levels under 1,500 IU daily to be generally safe, which was confirmed by a major review in the American Journal of Clinical nutrition (April 2005).
